(Newser) – If your idea of undying romance involves padlocks, well, New York City is now cracking down on your love life. The trend of attaching a padlock to, say, the Brooklyn Bridge as a tribute to the permanence of your goopy emotions, er, “love lock,” will now come with a price tag. Specifically, New York is now rewarding would-be Romeos with a $ 100 fine for their efforts, but the AP notes that the city’s effort is not without a wink: One warning sign advises “No lock, yes lox,” with a picture of a crossed-out lock and a bagel. But the padlock Casanovas are a real nuisance, with 11,000 locks removed from the bridge last year at a cost of $ 116,000.
