Seahawks re-sign DE Tapp, cut S Grant (AP)
The Seattle Seahawks re-signed defensive end Darryl Tapp and released starting safety Deon Grant on Monday, part of the continuing changes under new coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider. Earlier Monday, the Seahawks signed wide receiver Ruvell Martin to a one-year deal and tight end Chris Baker to a multiyear contract.

Mawae re-elected as NFLPA president (AP)
Free agent center Kevin Mawae was unanimously re-elected as president of the NFL Players Association during the union’s board of player representatives meeting Saturday. Mawae, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, will serve his second straight two-year term beginning this season after the voting was announced in Maui with more than 100 players in attendance.

Jets coach Ryan has weight-loss surgery (AP)
Jets coach Rex Ryan underwent a weight-loss procedure Saturday to help him fight obesity. The husky Ryan had lap-band surgery at NYU Medical Center, and was relaxing at his home in New Jersey on Saturday night, team spokesman Bruce Speight told The Associated Press. Speight said Ryan also had a hernia repaired.

Baskett rejoins Eagles with 1-year deal (AP)
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed free agent wide receiver Hank Baskett to a one-year contract. Baskett was released by the Eagles last September after three seasons in Philadelphia. He then signed with Indianapolis and played 15 games, including playoffs. Baskett had 71 catches for 1,046 yards and six touchdowns in 47 games with the Eagles.

Attorneys for the woman who accuses Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault said that she did the right thing by going to police and asked for privacy in a statement Tuesday. The Jacksonville Jaguars used veterans, rookies, former first-round draft picks and a few undrafted guys in hopes of generating consistent pass rush last season.
